ST. GEORGE (AP) — The secrets of an ancestral Puebloan pit house in southwestern Utah will be discovered another day after a conservation agreement between archaeologists, state officials and a developers.

The Spectrum newspaper in St. George reports that the partnership was announced Saturday. Developer Brooks Pace will hand over the site in the Dammeron Valley to the Archaeological Conservancy until advances technology and techniques can provide more answers.

Despite a four-month excavation, few details were learned about the house. The conservancy is planning to backfill the house, preserving it for later research.

Surveyors first identified the site as they passed through ahead of the planned development, encountering a scattering of stone chippings, bone fragments and other tell-tale signs of historic buildings.
