DRAPER — Sydney Kener, 13, remains in the intensive care unit at Primary Children’s Hospital Wednesday. Kener awoke from a coma Tuesday evening but is still recovering after falling from the back of a car while car surfing Monday.
Her father, Kevin Kener, sends a plea to parents to talk to their children about the risks of driving and playing games involving vehicles. “It’s not funny, it’s not a game, it’s serious, it’s life or death,” he said.
Ty Larsen saw the accident unfold Monday. “The car seemed to speed up or switch gears and she went right off the back,” Larsen said, but when he ran to help, “(I) saw her on the ground and the friend had backed the car up and was trying to put her in the back seat of the car.” Larsen told the teen driver, “it’s probably not a good idea to move her if she’s injured. She said, ‘No, she’s fine.’ ”
“This is a horrible thing to go through,” Kener said. “I just want parents to be aware and have a little chat with their kids and let them know this is extremely dangerous and I wouldn’t want anyone to go through what we’re going through.”
Kener says neither he nor his family have any ill will toward the driver and just want Sydney to recover fully. He thanks the community for its support.
