SALT LAKE CITY — Just in time for Mother’s Day, Baby Animal Days makes its fourth annual appearance in Kaysville.
The event’s main attraction is, of course, a plethora of baby farm animals that people big and small can visit, pet and hold. It coincides with Mothers Day each year, because what goes better with mothers than babies?
Baby Animal Days is organized and coordinated between the USU Botanical Center Extension in Davis County and Utah’s 4-H program, according to Justen Smith, director of the USU Botanical Center. Members of the 4-H program raise the baby animals used in the event.
Smith said the event started after seeing the success of the American West Heritage Center’s Baby Animal Days in Logan, and after he heard event-goers asking if the event was also held in a more southerly direction. They already had enough land with the extension campus in Kaysville, so a second Baby Animal Days event was born.
“We started it and we didn’t know what the response would be, but it’s been huge. He get over 10,000 people to come,” Smith said. “Every year it grows.”

Smith said animals featured this year include calves, piglets, chicks and lambs, among others. And for the first time, the event will show a knee-high baby yak.
If baby animals weren’t enough, the event has other activities for good family fun including horse rides, sheep shearing demonstrations, reptile shows, bounce houses, food booths, miniature train rides and wall climbing.
Baby Animal Days takes place May 8 – 9 and is located at the USU Botanical Center Extension, 875 South 50 West, in Kaysville. Visit babyanimaldays.org for tickets and more information.
