SALT LAKE CITY — Utah gymnastics began its new era today with the hiring of Meredith Paulicivic as the new assistant coach.

Paulicivic, formerly Meredith King, returns to Utah after spending the past season as an assistant coach at Arizona. She was a three-time vault All-American for the Red Rocks from 1991 to 1994, competing on the 1992 and 1994 Utah NCAA Championship teams. She was the first Utah gymnast walk-on to earn All-American honors.

“I was a die-hard Utah gymnastics fan as a little girl growing up in California and competing at Utah was always my dream,” said Paulicivic. “After I graduated from the U., it became my dream to return as a coach. I am thrilled to work alongside Megan (Marsden) and Tom (Farden) and to coach student athletes of this caliber.”

Tom Farden, who was promoted to co-head coach after five years as Utah’s assistant coach, said Paulicivic is a great addition to Utah’s coaching staff.

“Meredith is a talented technical coach and choreographer,” said Farden. “She’ll also be a big part of our recruiting effort. From her many years coaching elite-level gymnasts, Meredith will be a real asset in attracting the top talent to Utah.”

The Twentynine Palms, California, native began her college coaching career as an assistant at California in 1996, spending one year with the Bears before leaving to coach at the club level at SCEGA Gymnastics in 1997. From 1997 to 2006, she served as the head choreographer for floor and beam at SCEGA, before taking over as the head coach in 2007. She left SCEGA after the 2014 season for the position at Arizona.

While at SCEGA, she coached a number of elite-level gymnasts and six U.S. National Team members. Among those was former Ute All-American Rachel Tidd, who was a three-year U.S. National Team member during her time with Paulicivic and competed on the U.S. World Championships team that won the bronze medal in 2001. Another of her 31 SCEGA gymnasts to earn NCAA scholarships was UCLA’s Brittani McCullough, the 2010 NCAA floor champion.
