PROVO — Police were canvassing the city Tuesday, looking for any sign of a woman missing since Thursday.

"The problem is there's very little to go on," Provo Police Sgt. Brandon Post said.

Elizabeth Elena Laguna Salgado, 26, was last seen leaving the Nomen Global Language Center, 384 W. Center, on Thursday afternoon. She lives with roommates at the Branbury Apartments, 449 W. 1720 North.

Salgado has only lived in Provo for about a month, Post said. But she always went to school and work on time, and checked in with her roommates and family — most of whom live out of the country — every day.

"This behavior is outside the norm for her," Post said of Salgado's disappearance, while also noting that her cellphone is turned off and there has been "no activity on the credit cards."

Salgado, who is from Mexico, recently earned a scholarship to attend the Nomen Global Language Center to learn English, Post said. The school reported Tuesday that she had only been attending for three weeks.

Salgado does not own a car, Post said. One of her uncles who lives in California was the person who called police reporting her missing Friday, he said. Her roommates told police they did not notice any strange behavior from Salgado before she disappeared.

"She hasn't been here very long, and nobody around here knows her very well," Post said.

Rudemberth Salgado is another uncle who lives in Provo. He said his niece texted him about 1:30 p.m. Thursday asking for a ride to Wal-Mart. He agreed and asked her what time she needed a ride, but she never responded, he said.

As part of their investigation, detectives wanted to question two men who had allegedly asked the woman out on dates. She reportedly declined both invitations.

Salgado was believed to have last been carrying a denim handbag with red straps and wearing a denim jacket and blue jeans. She was wearing knee-high boots that were either black or brown.

Salgado was last seen wearing that outfit when she left school about 1:30 p.m. Thursday. She was supposed to go to work Friday, Post said. She did not show up, and police have not found the clothes she was wearing at school in her apartment, leading them to believe she did not make it home.

Anyone with information about Salgado's disappearance or whereabouts is asked to call Provo police at 801-852-6210 or detective Darren Ringel at 801-852-7307.
