CACHE VALLEY — A 74-year-old man was uninjured after making an emergency landing with his single-engine airplane in a hay field in Cache Valley Saturday.

Logan resident John Kerr left the Logan Cache Airport just after 9 a.m. Saturday morning in his plane, a single wing Kit Fox Classic 1 that was home-built. While flying over the Trenton area, his engine began to sputter. Kerr contacted other planes in the area to inform them of his situation, and that he was returning to Logan Cache Airport.

The engine failed just after he turned back to Logan and rapidly began losing altitude. Kerr was able to make a hard landing in a field at approximately 4800 West and Highway 218.

Kerr was the only person on the plane. The FAA and NTSB have been forwarded relevant information. Kerr’s plane underwent significant damage, both to the landing gear and the front end.
