ST. GEORGE — The online community has raised more than $1,600 for a dog who was found injured on the side of the road Feb. 28.

Todd Ellis found the dog, whom he named “Thumper”, in Warner Valley when he came out of the sagebrush bleeding with an injured leg, according to Ellis’ *GoFundMe page.

Ellis took Thumper to Washington Family Vet, where they discovered there were no feeder vessels to the broken bone and it needed to be amputated.

“I am the last person on earth to ask for a dime,” Ellis wrote on the GoFundMe page. “But I think we can take some pride in the amount of funds we have raised so quickly to help this girl out. We are all vested in her well being and out of the kindness of your hearts I think things will turn out for the best.”

The surgery cost about $1,500, a cost the donors to the GoFundMe beat in 5 days.

Thumper is “pretty sore” and has to take medicine for two weeks before getting her stitches out, Ellis wrote.

Ellis has not located an owner yet and is unable to keep Thumper at his home, so he is looking for someone to place Thumper with if he doesn’t find the owner.
