MOAB — A Colorado man is facing 13 felony and misdemeanor charges following a police chase in Moab that reached speeds of 120 mph, according to jail records.

The Feb. 20 incident began about 1:15 a.m. when Moab police officer Justin Olsen spotted a driver traveling 41 mph in 35 mph zone. When Olsen tried to pull the car over, the driver headed north on Main Street, "accelerating rapidly," the officer wrote in a Grand County Jail booking report.

Speeds reached 120 mph on Main Street, the officer wrote. When Main Street turned into state Route 191, the speeding driver went into the oncoming lane three times, forcing three cars off the road, Olsen wrote.

The driver crashed his car into a hillside when he tried to take the eastbound ramp from S.R. 191 to I-70 at Crescent Junction, the booking report states. The man got out of the car and ran across the interstate, Olsen wrote.

"After an extensive search of the area, we were able to locate the suspect," Olsen wrote, adding that the injured man was found face down on the ground.

Matthew Manuel Medina, 21, was taken to Moab Regional Hospital for treatment before being booked into jail. Officers were able to determine that Medina was the only person in the car, Olsen wrote.

Medina, of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, was charged Monday in Utah's 7th District Court with three counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; failure to stop at an officer's command, a third-degree felony; failure to remain at the scene of an injury crash, a class A misdemeanor; and reckless endangerment, a class A misdemeanor; as well as a number of other misdemeanor traffic offenses. His bail is set at $24,000.
