ST. GEORGE — Police identified a man who was killed in an accident that closed I-15 for several hours Tuesday.

The crash occurred on northbound 1-15 near the SR-9 exit just before 3 p.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol. Troopers responded to the accident and found several cars had slid onto the shoulder and median of the freeway.

A Suzuki Sidekick had slid off the right side of the northbound lanes, vaulted off a small cliff and rolled twice, UHP said. The driver of the vehicle, 80-year-old Lynn Wilde from Leeds, was ejected during the rollover. He sustained fatal injuries in the accident.

Northbound I-15 was closed for several hours Tuesday due to the accident.

Two additional crashes occurred about 1 mile from the first accident, one on northbound I-15 and one on southbound 1-15, according to UHP. No one in either of those accidents was seriously injured.

The accident is still under investigation, but initial reports from investigators said the weather and slick roads may have been a factor in all three accidents.
