SALT LAKE CITY — An 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday night after police say he jumped in front of a car to get the driver to stop and then demanded that she drive him downtown.

Tarren A. Gomez, of Salt Lake City, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of kidnapping and consumption of alcohol by a minor.

About 11:15 p.m. Thursday, police say Gomez jumped in front of a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old woman in the Sugar House area. Before the woman could lock her doors, Gomez got inside.

"He told her to drive to an address in the Avenues, at the same time reaching into his backpack. Thinking he had a weapon, she complied," a Salt Lake police report states.

When they got to Ninth Avenue and F Street, the man told the woman to wait while he went inside, according to police. Instead, the woman drove off and called police. When Gomez walked out of the house, officers were waiting and arrested him.

Last month, Gomez was convicted of DUI, a class B misdemeanor, in Salt Lake County Justice Court. He was ordered to spend two days in jail or perform 48 hours of community service. He was also placed on 12 months' probation.
