ROOSEVELT — A motorcyclist was thrown to the ground and critically injured following a motorcycle-car collision Wednesday night.
Around 6:30 p.m., the driver of a car pulled out of a driveway near 800 West and U.S. 40 in Roosevelt. The driver was turning left across the highway's westbound lanes to go east on U.S. 40 when he spotted a motorcycle coming toward him in the westbound lane and tried to stop, according to Roosevelt Police Officer Alex Thompson.
The driver of the car told police the motorcyclist "gunned it" in an apparent effort to get around him, but the car and the motorcycle collided in the middle of the highway. Both vehicles then slid through the eastbound lanes of U.S. 40, police officials said.
The man driving the car was ejected. He was taken to Uintah Basin Medical Center with unknown injuries. An 11-year-old girl in the car was not hurt.
Doctors are currently working on stabilizing the motorcyclist, so they can fly him to a Salt Lake area hospital.
