PROVO — Would-be BYU transfer guard Matt Carlino may soon know where he’ll be playing basketball next season.

ESPN’s Jeff Goodman reported via Twitter on Thursday that Carlino will begin his official visits next month. According to Goodman, Carlino will visit Purdue the first weekend of May, followed by a visit to Marquette the following weekend.

On April 1, BYU head coach Dave Rose announced that Carlino would be transferring elsewhere for his senior season of eligibility.

This past season, Carlino averaged a career-high 13.7 points for the Cougars. Carlino also contributed 4.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Carlino began the 2013-14 season as BYU’s starting point guard but was moved to the bench in favor of Kyle Collinsworth for the Cougars’ home game on Jan. 4 against San Diego.

After the season-ending injury to Collinsworth in the West Coast Conference championship game against Gonzaga, Carlino returned to the starting point guard position for the team’s NCAA tournament matchup against Oregon. The Cougars lost to the Ducks 87-68.

Carlino leaves BYU in the top 10 in team history in career assists (7th), steals (6th) and 3-point field goals (6th) and 27th on the all-time scoring list.

Carlino will graduate from BYU in June, which will allow him to play immediately for his new team.
