WEST VALLEY CITY — Police have few leads to determine who fired shots from a parking lot that hit a 17 year-old boy as he was sitting inside his apartment.

Police say a man in a dark-colored car had been arguing with people in the parking lot of the apartment complex, 4535 Dean Drive, and then fired at least two shots just before noon on Wednesday. The bullets went through a building and hit the teen in the foot.

"Police have been interviewing witnesses, and talking to some of the people who were around at the time," West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said Thursday. "They're getting some conflicting information, so it's made it tough to pin down exactly what the motive might be, or who the person might be."

The 17 year-old boy was taken to an area hospital in fair condition. Family members said he was recovering well, but was expected to remain in the hospital for at least one more night. Those same relatives, however, did not want to comment about the shooting, though some said they were there at the time.

Police have very few leads, and are looking for help from the public in finding the shooter. If you have any information about the incident or the identity of the shooter, you can call West Valley City Police at 801-840-4000.
