SALT LAKE CITY — With temperatures warming up, many are looking for ways to get across town on foot or bike.

GREENbike was established in 2013 as a way to help boost bicycle use in downtown Salt Lake City. The bike-sharing program currently has 12 stations in operation around the city and seven more planned to open this year.

The bike service has seen incredible success over the last year, said program manager Will Becker.

“We've had great support,” Becker said, “It's fantastic to provide a service that so many people are excited to use. Our opening season was even more popular than we expected and we will be expanding this season to match that demand.”

Those wishing to take a bike from one of the stations can pay a fee and have access to the bike for 30 minutes at a time. The bike then must be returned to a station and another one checked out.

“We provide people with fun, affordable and healthy transportation options for short trips downtown,” Becker said. “The bike share helps improve connectivity to public transit and makes it easier to get around downtown. It also helps improve air quality by decreasing the number of car trips.”

Those interested in using the bike-sharing program can pay for a day’s usage or sign up for monthly or yearly passes. GREENbike is one of the smaller bike-sharing programs in the county, but has seen unprecedented popularity, Becker said.

“Our program is one of the smaller bike shares, but in its opening season had the most trips per bike of any program with less than 50 stations,” he said.

Last year, GREENbike had over 6,100 users who made over 26,000 trips. Station maps and user information can be found on [GREENbike’s website](<https://www.greenbikeslc.org/home.aspx >).
