SANDY — Exactly three weeks after the Real Salt Lake front office named its new head coach in Jeff Cassar, the upcoming sideline boss named his four assistants that will join him on the sideline this season.

Former RSL head scout and player Andy Williams and Daryl Shore, Craig Waibel and Paul Dalglish from outside the Salt Lake club organization will stand alongside Cassar as the club enters its 10th season two months from now.

“I’m very excited for Andy, Daryl, Paul and Craig to join me as assistants,” Cassar said in the RSL press release Wednesday. “Having such an experienced staff on board will help me in my first year as a head coach, and the unique characteristics that each of them bring to the table will help the team contend for another MLS Cup. Their backgrounds will also allow RSL to continue our unique position-specific coaching model, with Daryl primarily coaching the goalkeepers, Craig working with the defenders, Andy coaching the midfielders and Paul spending time with the forwards.”

Williams, known well during his playing days for sporting a long-sleeved jersey no matter how high the temperature was, played for the Claret and Cobalt for seven seasons from 2005-2011 before retiring to become the organization's head scout from 2012-2013.

“Wow don't know where to really start, but as you all know, soccer has been one of the biggest and rewarding things in my life, most players dream of coaching professionally once they retire but few ever get that chance,” Williams posted on his Facebook and Twitter pages after the announcement.

“That said I'd love to thank Jeff for giving me this opportunity to work along side with him as an assistant. Also thanks to Dell Loy, Bill and Garth for being on board and trusting me in this new roll. I am super excited to still be apart of this amazing franchise that I'm so passionate about. Cheers to 2014!”

Shore comes to the RSL club with experience as a longtime MLS goalkeeper coach where he spent time coaching with the Chicago Fire for 10 years from 2000-2010 and then with the NASL side Fort Lauderdale Strikers from 2010-2013.

Waibel enters the Salt Lake club as a former MLS defender with the Houston Dynamo, L.A. Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes over 11 seasons. Waibel was also an assistant coach at the University of Washington in 2012 and the University of Michigan in 2011.

Dalglish comes to the Utah-based club with his playing days being both across seas in the English Premier League, Scottish Premier League and English lower divisions for nearly 10 years and then in MLS for the Houston Dynamo for two seasons. Dalglish most recently spent the last two years as the manager of the USL Premier Development League’s Austin Aztex, and spent time as a technical director for the Lonestar SC youth club in Austin.

All four assistant coaches will join Cassar at the upcoming MLS Combine in Fort Lauderdale from Jan. 10-14 and then at the MLS SuperDraft next week on Jan. 16.

Following the MLS Combine and the MLS SuperDraft, RSL will begin its preseason on Jan. 24 when the players will report for entrance physicals. The club will then make the trek to Casa Grande, Ariz., for the first of its two preseason training camps. The first will be held at the club’s RSL-Arizona Academy Jan. 25-Feb. 1.

RSL will hold its second preseason training camp from Feb. 4-13 in Irvine, Calif. before returning to its Arizona training site Feb. 17 in preparation for the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup preseason tournament, which will be held Feb. 19-March 1.

The Salt Lake club will kick off its 2014 regular season on the road March 8 as it faces MLS Western Conference opponent the L.A. Galaxy in the StubHub Center before facing the San Jose Earthquakes also on the road March 15. RSL will open its 2014 home schedule March 22 as it hosts the Galaxy inside Rio Tinto Stadium.
