NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's presidential campaign has asked the Federal Election Commission for a 45-day extension to file his financial disclosure report. But his campaign says he still intends to file it in time to make the first GOP presidential primary debate on August 6.
Candidates wishing to participate in the debate hosted by Fox News Channel are required to file "all necessary paperwork" with the FEC by 5 p.m. next Tuesday.
Christie campaign spokeswoman Samantha Smith says the campaign intends to file the forms with both the FEC and Fox no later than Tuesday afternoon.
The 10 GOP candidates with the highest national poll numbers will qualify to appear on the prime-time debate stage.
Other candidates, including Jeb Bush, have requested FEC extensions as well.
