ROCKVILLE, Conn. (AP) — A former University of Connecticut student who went on a drunken, obscenity-laced tirade about jalapeno-bacon macaroni and cheese applied for probation Monday.
Luke Gatti filed the application for accelerated rehabilitation at Rockville Superior Court, The Hartford Courant reported (http://cour.at/1LvIEPw ). The charges against him — misdemeanor breach of peace and criminal trespassing — will be dropped if he is accepted into the program for first-time offenders and meets the required conditions.
The 19-year-old former freshman from Bayville, New York, was arrested over his Oct. 4 outburst in the Student Union. He ranted at and shoved a university food service supervisor for refusing to sell him the macaroni and cheese.
The altercation was caught on a video and has been widely viewed online.
Gatti later released his own video in which he apologized for his actions.
He's no longer enrolled at UConn. University officials, citing federal law, won't say if he left on his own or was expelled.
An attorney for Gatti, David Kritzman, said he would not comment.
Gatti is due back in court Dec. 21.
