ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Police in St. Petersburg say a man who tried to carjack an unmarked police car was surprised by two detectives, who arrested him after he tried to run.

A St. Petersburg police report said the undercover detectives were sitting in their vehicle last week when 27-year-old Dominique Albert of the Tampa Bay area opened a passenger door while armed with a steak knife.

Both detectives yelled "police" and one drew his gun as Albert reportedly dropped the knife and tried to run, according to the report. It says the detectives caught up with him and arrested him.

Authorities say Albert faces several charges, including carjacking and assaulting a law enforcement officer.

Jail records show Albert was being held on $170,000 bail. The records didn't list an attorney for the man.
