LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (AP) — Virginia's Connor Jones outdueled Southern California's Kyle Davis, and the Cavaliers scored all of their runs in the last three innings to win 6-1 on Friday in the opening round of the Lake Elsinore Regional.

Jones (6-2) gave up one run and five hits in 7 2/3 innings, allowing only three runners to reach scoring position. He struck out four and walked two for the Cavaliers (35-22).

Davis (3-3) didn't allow a hit until the seventh — when Virginia's offense got going against Southern Cal (37-20). The Cavaliers had eight hits over the final three innings, scoring two unearned runs in the seventh, one earned run in the eighth and three in the ninth.

Josh Sborz got four outs for his 13th save.

Virginia's Ernie Clement doubled home two runs, and Adam Haseley drove in a run. Jeremy Martinez singled home the only run for the Trojans in the eighth.
