NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Kyle Hart scattered five hits in seven innings, leading Indiana to a 7-1 win over Radford in the first round of the Nashville NCAA Regional on Friday.
Hart (5-0,), who had surgery on his left elbow last year, allowed one unearned run and struck out six in his longest outing of the season.
The loss ended Radford's 15-game winning streak, handing the Highlanders their first loss since April 26.
Indiana (35-22), which has won 12 of its last 15, faces the Vanderbilt-Lipscomb winner on Saturday. Radford (43-15), the Big South regular-season and tournament champion, will face the loser in an elimination game.
Indiana led 7-0 lead before Hunter Higgerson's groundout brought in Radford's only run in the seventh.
Radford starter Michael Boyle (10-3) allowed seven hits and four runs in six innings.
Catcher Brad Hartong's RBI single to left field gave Indiana a 1-0 lead in third inning. Brian Wilhite had a two-run double off the left-center field wall in the fourth, and Nick Ramos added an RBI triple to nearly the same spot to the lead to 4-0.
The Hoosiers added three more in the seventh, capped by Craig Dedelow's two-run to right field, building their lead to 7-0.
Indiana turned a triple play to get out of a jam in the first inning. Patrick Marshall struck out looking for the first out and Hartong threw out Josh Reavis as he tried to steal second base for the second out. Hartong completed the play by diving to tag out Josh Reavis after he got caught in a rundown between third and home.
