LONDON (AP) — Britian's best-known radical Muslim preacher says he plans to plead not guilty to a charge of inviting support for the Islamic State group through online lectures.
Anjem Choudary, 48, was charged under the Terrorism Act with supporting the Islamic State group, a banned organization, between June 29, 2014, and March 6.
Another man, 32-year-old Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, faces the same charge.
During a hearing Wednesday at London's Westminster Magistrates Court, Choudary indicated he would plead not guilty. He was ordered detained until his next court appearance Aug. 28.
Choudary is the former leader of a banned group that staged demonstrations outside the U.S. Embassy on the anniversary of Sept. 11 and burned memorial poppies on Remembrance Day. The group operated under various names including al-Muhajiroun and Islam4UK.
