SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (AP) — Authorities in Costa Rica say an autopsy has confirmed that a Romanian man hanged himself in an airliner's bathroom on a flight arriving from Bogota, Colombia.

Costa Rica's Office of Judicial Investigation said Thursday that the man died of "asphyxia by hanging." He was identified as Costel Comana.

The office says Comana's travelling companion reported he had shown signs of nervousness during the flight. The companion is also a Romanian but has not been identified.

The woman said she fell asleep on the Avianca flight Wednesday and when she woke up, Comana was gone. She asked an airline steward for help and his body was found in a bathroom.
