BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Romania's prime minister has co-piloted an F-16 fighter jet at the end of Romanian and U.S. air exercises.
Dressed in a flight suit, Victor Ponta visited the Campia Turzii military air base in northwest Romania where about 450 U.S. and Romanian troops and technical staff had been taking part in the weeklong exercises ending Thursday.
Ponta, also a rally car driver, said it's nothing like piloting a racecar and he was overjoyed he could walk straight once the fighter jet landed.
Romania's defense ministry signed a deal in October to buy secondhand F-16 fighter jets from Portugal to bring its air force up to NATO standards.
