WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A therapy dog named Lulu is bringing comfort to mourners at a New York funeral home.

The retriever-poodle mix wears an identifying vest as she sits in the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home lobby in White Plains. She responds if someone greets her or reaches out to her.

Funeral director Matthew Fiorillo tells the Journal News (http://lohud.us/1LQcUHr ) that Lulu has an "uncanny knack" for spotting people who need her.

Sandy Del Duca of White Plains says Lulu is "wonderful." The dog sat with her as she made arrangements for her father, walked into the wake with her, and mingled with mourners at the funeral.

Del Duca says Lulu's presence prompted conversation about her father's love of animals. She says it helped turn the sad occasion into a celebration of his life.
