WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — The former president of Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington is rescinding his January resignation and wants his job back.

Area media outlets report a letter from former president Ted Springs' attorney says that when the board asked for Springs' resignation it violated his employment contract.

The letter says that in a closed session Jan. 22, the board offered Springs the chance to resign and if he did not do so he was told he would be fired. The letter said he was told he was being fired because he did not do what the board asked him to do.

The letter says Spring's employment agreement requires 60 days' notice of termination and written notice explaining the reason.

Board Chairman Jason Harris would not comment, saying it's a legal issue.
