POTSDAM, N.Y. (AP) — Two upstate New York colleges say they're considering the possibility of merging.

Clarkson University in Potsdam and Union Graduate College in Schenectady, a 10-year-old spin-off if Union College, say any combination would involve graduate programs and the goal of expanding offerings for students.

The schools say share strengths in engineering, science and management and a merger would give Clarkson students access to Union's bioethics, health care management and education programs.

The combined administration would be centered in Schenectady and Clarkson would look to expand existing programs including Beacon, Potsdam, Saranac Lake and New York City.

A final decision is expected within months.
