BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Psychiatrists are few and far between in Idaho's plentiful rural communities. However, officials say that telemedicine is helping the practice get a hand in treating far-away patients. The nation's largest telemedicine provider cited regulatory issues for pulling out of Idaho nearly one year ago. To combat those challenges, lawmakers passed legislation this year requiring the state's medical licensing boards to develop rules for providing telemedicine in Idaho.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A judge in Las Vegas has set a July 22 preliminary hearing for an Idaho woman and her brother from California in the hatchet slaying of the woman's husband. A defense attorney says Maria Olga Gutierrez of Burley, Idaho, plans to plead not guilty in the May 25 slaying of 43-year-old Enrique Gil Hernandez.

JEROME, Idaho (AP) — When officials at North Side Canal Co. realized that they needed to replace an aging concrete gate, they chose one that would pay for itself. The Twin Falls Times-News reports that the new gate doubles as a hydroelectric power plant and is expected to generate $8 million worth of electricity over the next 28 years. Canal's company manager says the company will sell the electricity to Idaho Power Co.

SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — Sandpoint officials say they've solved the problem of geese on the beach by hiring two adorable new workers. KTVB-TV reports that city officials say they have hired two border collies trained to chase the birds away and it has been more effective than any other technique they've tried. Since canines Oakie and Nicky began their job, goose numbers have declined 80 percent.
