LAS VEGAS (AP) — Limited testing has been successful today in Nevada for the troubled Common Core assessments, but now the state is offering school districts an out. Officials say a state law allows schools to document its attempts to take the tests to count as participating in the assessments. The technical problems began Tuesday for Nevada and two other states that use the Measured Progress system to administer the tests. The little-known Nevada statute has been used at the local level, but officials say this is the first time it will be applied statewide.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The bankrupt operating division of casino empire Caesars Entertainment Corp. wants more time to file its reorganization plan to get out from under about $18 billion in debt. Caesars Entertainment Operating Co. lawyers filed a motion this week asking a bankruptcy judge in Chicago to allow the company six more months to file its own plan exclusively.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Family members say the 5-year-old namesake grandson of famed basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian has suffered a stroke. His parents say the boy complained of pain in his legs and was taken to University Medical Center at 4 this morning. Danny and Amy Tarkanian say he's undergoing testing and is showing signs of improvement.

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — The future of the dilapidated D'Andrea Golf Course in Sparks is unclear as the six-parcel property is no longer up for auction. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that the owner of the golf course has paid the $462,000 in back taxes owed on the property, halting plans for an auction on April 22.
