Blue Jackets sign Goloubef to 2-year contract extension

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Cody Goloubef to a two-year contract extension through the 2016-17 season, locking him up before he could become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The 25-year-old Goloubef had nine assists with 19 penalty minutes and a +12 plus/minus rating, while averaging 15:33 of ice time in 36 games with the Blue Jackets in 2014-15.

The Blue Jackets' second pick, 37th overall, in the 2008 NHL draft, the Mississauga, Ontario, native has a goal and nine assists, 21 penalty minutes and a +10 plus/minus rating in 53 career NHL games.

He has also registered 18-52-70 and 232 penalty minutes in 201 career AHL games with the Springfield Falcons since beginning his professional career in 2010-11.
