WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Georgetown basketball player Patrick Ewing Jr. has returned as director of basketball operations.

Coach John Thompson III made the announcement Tuesday. Ewing Jr. is the son of former Georgetown All-American and NBA Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing.

Thompson says he's glad to have the younger Ewing "back home," and as a player he "saw the game through the eyes of a coach."

After graduating in 2008, he was a second-round pick by the Sacramento Kings. He also played for the Rockets, Knicks and Hornets, appearing in seven games for New Orleans in 2010-11.

He also played overseas in Germany, Spain, Greece and Qatar.
