It’s hot outside, which means your a/c is cranked up, and your electric bills are skyrocketing. With air conditioning accounting for up to 70 percent of your summer power bill, it’s time to become energy independent this summer. Here are four big reasons to go solar this summer.

Beat the heat & save money

As summer heats up, so does your home. Fortunately, solar panels collect more energy from the sun during the summer, helping you and your family stay cool all day long, not just when the sun is up. It also greatly reduces or even eliminates your monthly power bill, saving you money (how much you save depends on several factors, so talk to a solar expert).

Solar financing is available

The more panels dotting rooftops makes one think, “Could I afford them?” The answer lies within another question, “Can you afford your current power bill?” If yes, then you can make solar work for you. Between available tax credits and solar financing, solar has become more of a reality for everyday Utahns.

As power rates continue to climb, investing in solar and locking in the cost of your power bill makes more and more sense. Don’t leave out the fact that the panels will continue to produce power for you long after they’re paid off.

Utah is prime for solar efficiency

Many wonder how efficient Utah’s climate is for capturing and harnessing the sun’s power. The truth is, Utah produces over five hours each day of efficient solar time. Sure, the sun shines a lot longer than that each day, but it’s a process to convert the sunlight into usable energy, and five hours of solar time in Utah makes a big difference in your power bill.

Zero maintenance required

Anytime you make an investment or buy something new, you always have to consider how maintenance will affect the overall price and value. Solar panels don’t have moving parts like much of the tech in today’s world, so there isn’t a whole lot of maintenance needed. Keeping your panels visible to receive sunlight is the biggest form of maintenance. In the warmer months, that could mean hosing them off to ensure that leaves and dirt aren’t causing you to lose efficiency.

Aside from the reasons mentioned above, solar has myriad other benefits, including the following:

  • Environmentally friendly
  • Solar panels have been known to increase home value
  • Credible solar installers provide warranties for their work and panels
  • Micro-inverter technology maximizes the efficiency of every panel and syncs with your smartphone so you can see results in real-time
From small operations that power digital road signs to Auric Solar’s massive installment powering Rio Tinto Stadium, solar panels are mounted on residential and commercial rooftops around the globe — even the White House (President Barack Obama had them in installed in 2013).
