CINCINNATI (AP) — A veteran Catholic educator will lead schools in the 19-county Archdiocese of Cincinnati on an interim basis.

Catholic officials announced Wednesday that Susie Gibbons will serve as interim superintendent for "the next several months." A nationwide search is planned to replace Jim Rigg, who is leaving to become superintendent of Catholic schools for the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Gibbons takes over Oct. 1. She has been Catholic schools regional director. Before joining the Catholic Schools office, she was principal of Seton High School in Cincinnati for 13 years and held earlier administrative and teaching jobs there. She also taught at Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering. She earned her bachelor's degree from Mount. St. Joseph and master's from Xavier University.

The Cincinnati-based diocese has 111 schools and claims nearly 500,000 Catholics.
