SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Mormon church is taking another step in its push to be more transparent, and is releasing more historical documents that shed light on how Joseph Smith formed the religion. The Church says the volume being released today in Salt Lake City is a printer's manuscript of the Book of Mormon. Mormons believe that 185 years ago, God helped Smith translate a story that was written in ancient Egyptian and engraved on gold plates. It became known as the Book of Mormon.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah cornerback Dominique Hatfield has been charged with misdemeanor assault in a fight during a party last month in Salt Lake City. Detectives say neither a summons to appear nor a warrant has been issued but the investigation is ongoing. Hatfield was dismissed from the team last month after he was charged in a separate case with aggravated robbery and theft. Prosecutors dropped charges last week.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah state officials say they need more time to assess how a plan unveiled by President Barack Obama to decrease emissions from U.S. power plants will impact the state. The EPA says Utah's goal of reaching a 37-percent decrease in carbon emission by 2030 is moderate compared to other states.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — City governments in Utah scoop up an average of $25 per $1,000 earned by residents. That's according to a new report by the Utah Taxpayers Association. The report found South Salt Lake City has the most expensive government for citizens, taking about $64 of every $1,000 earned in the city. Riverton was the cheapest.
