CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers have approved a measure aimed at strengthening protections for religious practices in school. The bill clarifies religious rights for students but sets restrictions if the practice is used to bully other students or disrupt an educational environment. It also requires school boards to set up a grievance process for students who claim their religious rights have been violated.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Parents of a sixth-grader at a public charter school in North Las Vegas say a teacher barred their daughter from using the Bible verse John 3:16 in an assignment and they want an apology. Somerset Academy's management company Academica Nevada says in a statement it is investigating the circumstances of the complaint. The school says it considers the civil liberties of its students to be of utmost importance.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers are vetting a bill addressing a fight between rooftop solar companies and NV Energy. Advocates for rooftop solar installations have been protesting against a 3 percent state cap on how many solar customers can sell energy back to utility companies. They say the state will reach the cap this year, and the solar industry could come to a standstill.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The U.S. government will invest nearly $50 million in water conservation and reuse projects in the drought-stricken West. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell has announced funding for more than 60 projects in a dozen states. The idea is to stretch supplies to replenish shrinking groundwater systems and ease the use of expensive imported water.
