SPRINGDALE, Washington County — A 43-year-old man died after an accidental fall while hiking at Zion National Park last Wednesday.
Washington County Sheriff's Sgt. Lucas Alfred told KSL on Monday that the man fell from a "lower-level" area in Spry Canyon while he was canyoneering.
Park officials responded to the area after the man was discovered unresponsive. Lifesaving measures were performed but were unsuccessful, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Alfred.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death. It is being called accidental. No identifying information was provided on Monday.
The death marks the second at Zion National Park within just a matter of weeks. On April 17, 68-year-old Gilberto Ramos, of Laredo, Texas, died after a fall from a chained section of the Angels Landing trail.
