MURRAY — Police identified the man who died Tuesday after a car and a motorcycle collided near 5300 South and Intermountain Drive in Murray.

The crash happened just after 5 p.m. when Francisco Contreras Villarreal, 26, was heading west on 5300 South on a motorcycle. A driver in a car heading north made a left turn onto 50 East. The two collided, said Murray police spokeswoman Kristin Reardon.

A bystander administered CPR until first responders arrived, but Villarreal died at the scene. Initially, police said the man was not wearing a helmet, but investigators now believe he was as a helmet was recovered a short distance away from the point of impact.

The driver of the car was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and is said to be cooperating with the police investigation.

"As warmer weather approaches and motorcycle traffic increases, the Murray Police Department reminds all motorists to remain vigilant, check blind spots frequently and stay aware of their surroundings to ensure the safety of all drivers on the roadways," police said Wednesday.
