SALT LAKE CITY — Miss USA titleholder and former Miss Utah USA Noelia Voigt announced Monday she would be stepping down from her current Miss USA role.

"I realize this may come as a large shock to many," she wrote on Instagram. "Never compromise your physical and mental well-being."

Voigt, 24, was crowned Miss Utah USA while representing Park City on July 8, 2023, and won the Miss USA title on Sept. 29, 2023. She promised she would use her bilingual and bicultural heritage to connect with people across the U.S.

In her seven-month reign, she advocated against bullying, increasing dating violence awareness and prevention, and immigration rights and reform, according to her post.

She also celebrated her Venezuelan heritage, being the first Venezuelan American to take home the Miss USA crown.

The decision to resign has been "very tough," she wrote. "Deep down I know that this is just the beginning of a new chapter for me."

The Miss USA organization acknowledged Voigt's resignation on Instagram just an hour after her announcement. The organization said Voigt's well-being was "a top priority."

"We are currently reviewing plans for the transition of responsibilities to a successor, and we will soon announce the crowning of the new Miss USA," officials wrote.

The pageant, which has a legacy dating back to 1952, says it is a champion of diversity and inclusion.

"We believe that diversity is what makes us strong and that by embracing it, we can make a positive impact in the world," the pageant's website said.
