SALT LAKE CITY — Broadway is coming directly to Salt Lake City, with five premiere engagements headed to Utah's capital city as part of the 2024-25 Broadway at the Eccles season announced Wednesday.

The seven-show season includes six musicals: "& Juliet," "Mrs. Doubtfire," "Funny Girl," Tony-Award Winner "Kimberly Akimbo," a new adaptation of "Peter Pan," fan favorite, "Wicked" and the play "Life of Pi."

The beloved "Les Miserables" (playing Feb. 26-March 9, 2025) and the nine-time Tony Award-winning musical "The Book of Mormon" (playing Jan. 21-26, 2025) will also return as add-ons to the upcoming Eccles season.

"I'm thrilled with the upcoming Broadway at the Eccles season," said Megan Gutierrez, who runs the Utah Theater Lovers group. "I've been waiting for a year to add my 10-year-old to my season ticket package, and this seems to be the perfect season. I think it's a great mix of classics and new works."

Todd Frandsen, another member of the group, said it's "an amazing lineup."

"Not only does it have favorites coming back like "Wicked," "Book of Mormon" and "Les Mis," but we are getting new shows we haven't ever seen at Utah," he said. "The one I'm most excited for is "& Juliet." Can't believe we are getting it so soon, when it's so popular still on Broadway."

"Mrs. Doubtfire" (playing Sept. 10-15) is a musical version of the hit Robin Williams film about a divorced dad who disguises himself as a nanny to be close to his kids.

"Funny Girl" (playing Oct. 8-13) made Barbra Streisand a star with its iconic score featuring "Don't Rain on My Parade," "I'm the Greatest Star" and "People." It's the story of Fanny Brice, a girl from the Lower East Side in New York who dreamed of a life on the stage.

"Peter Pan" (playing Nov. 5-10) returns with a fresh script, as several references that haven't aged well with the times have been removed. Gone is the song "Ugg a Whug" and references to redskins. Timeless songs like "I Won't Grow Up" and "I'm Flying" remain in this story of Peter Pan's adventures with his mischievous sidekick, Tinkerbell, and the Darling children.

"Kimberly Akimbo" (playing Dec. 10-15) won the 2023 Tony Award for best musical. It is a coming-of-age story about a girl who moves to a new town and has to navigate family dysfunction, a rare genetic condition and her first crush.

"Life of Pi" (playing April 1-6, 2025) is based on the novel that sold more than 15 million copies, became a worldwide phenomenon and was later adapted into a movie. It tells the story of how a 16-year-old boy survives life after a shipwreck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

"Wicked" (playing April 16-May 25, 2025) takes place before the events of "The Wizard of Oz," following witches Elphaba and Glinda, who are best friends before one of them is dubbed a "good witch" and the other a "wicked witch." Loosely based on a book by Gregory Maguire, "Wicked" is currently the fourth-longest-running Broadway show.

"& Juliet" (playing June 17-22, 2025) is a hilarious new musical that flips the script on the greatest love story ever told, showing what would have happened if Juliet hadn't ended it all over Romeo. The score is jam-packed with No. 1 hits from songwriter/producer Max Martin, including "Since U Been Gone," "Roar," "Baby One More Time," "Larger Than Life, "That's the Way It Is" and "Can't Stop the Feeling."

"This is truly a season with something for everyone, from Broadway's biggest hits to shows that will touch your heart and delight new audiences," said Victor Hamburger, vice president of Mountain for Broadway Across America.
