SPRINGVILLE — One man is dead in an overnight shooting and three people are in custody Saturday in Springville, police said.
Officers responded to a call about gunshots shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday.
The report led police to an apartment complex at 216 S. 100 West. At the apartment, police "found a man who had been shot," Springville police said. The unidentified man was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries, Springville police said in a statement.
A "lengthy standoff" at the apartment ensued with officers from surrounding agencies — including Provo, Mapleton, Payson and the sheriff's office — trying to get three people who were inside the home to come out, according to the statement. The Utah County Metro SWAT team was called to help and ultimately took the three people safely into custody, where they are being questioned by police.
No officers were hurt during the standoff, according to the statement.
"Springville police do not have any reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to the public, and do not have any reason to believe there are any additional suspects at large," the department said.
Police said the shooting death is being investigated as a homicide.
