SALT LAKE CITY — A man is in critical condition after a shooting in Salt Lake City on Wednesday evening and police are asking for the public's help to find to the shooter.

The injured man was transported by ambulance to the hospital after Salt Lake police, Salt Lake fire and bystanders gave initial medical aid.

Salt Lake police said they received a call about the incident at 6:43 p.m. and responded to 1665 S. Riverside Drive, an address in Riverview Townhomes in the Glendale neighborhood.

A press release from police said while some officers performed life-saving care, other officers located witnesses and began searching for the shooter and evidence; the shooter left before officers arrived.

Police said detectives believe it is an isolated incident and there is no further danger to the community.

Salt Lake police spokesman Brent Weisberg with said officers have talked with multiple witnesses who were there when the shooting happened, but they are still trying to figure out a motive.

He asked anyone with information about the incident to call 801-799-3000. Detectives are specifically looking for video and he said people should contact police immediately if they locate any possible evidence that may be found near the scene.

Weisberg said officers secured the scene quickly, and bike squad officers canvassed the area including nearby neighborhoods and a trail to look for the shooter or any evidence.
