WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. House has impeached President Donald Trump on two charges, sending his case to the Senate for trial in January to decide whether to remove him from office. The articles of impeachment accuse him of abusing the power of the presidency to investigate a political rival ahead of the 2020 election and then obstructing Congress' investigation. Trump becomes the third president in U.S. history to be impeached. Democrats control the House, and the voting was almost entirely along party lines. The Senate is controlled by Trump's Republican Party, and it is almost certain he will be acquitted there. He proclaims his innocence daily, and says the Democrats will pay a price for impeaching him.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is setting records even on the day he was impeached by the House. His freewheeling rally in Michigan on Wednesday night was his longest rally ever. It clocked in at two hours and one minute. That's according to the owner of Factbase, a website that tracks the president's speeches. It wasn't, however, his longest-ever speech. That honor goes to remarks Trump delivered at the Conservative Political Action Conference in March of this year. Per the site's tally, all 10 of Trump's longest rallies have taken place this year.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) — A defiant President Donald Trump is labeling his impeachment by the House of Representatives “a suicide march” for the Democratic Party. Trump spoke at a freewheeling rally in Michigan on Wednesday night as the House voted to impeach him. He took the stage just minutes before he became the third president in U.S. history to be impeached. It was a dramatic and discordant split-screen moment, with Trump emerging from a mock fireplace like Santa Claus at the Christmas-themed rally as the debate in Washington was underway. It was also Trump's longest rally ever, clocking in at two hours and one minute.

UNDATED (AP) — Presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard is not joining House Democrats in support of two impeachment articles against President Donald Trump. Gabbard voted “present” Wednesday on both articles that charge Trump with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The Hawaii congresswoman for months has criticized Democrats pushing to impeach and remove Trump from office. She issued a lengthy statement after the House charged the president with abuse of power and obstructing Congress. In it, she said that Trump “violated public trust" but that voters would hold him accountable in the 2020 election. She introduced a resolution calling for Trump to be censured for his conduct.

NEW YORK (AP) — There's only so much patience for the impeachment drama at the television networks. Major broadcast and cable news networks stuck with House's lengthy debate on impeaching President Donald Trump for most of the day, but things got more sticky when it was time for lucrative prime-time programming. Both ABC and CBS cut away from the House at the conclusion of the debate and for the vote to show entertainment programs. NBC was the only broadcast network to stick with the story through the end. Fox broadcast didn't air the proceedings. On Fox News, Tucker Carlson called the proceedings nonsense.
