SALT LAKE CITY — A documented gang member already facing charges in connection with a shooting earlier this year has been charged in another violent offense and re-booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.

Ruben Tomas Saldivar, 19, of Salt Lake City, was charged Nov. 5 in 3rd District Court with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony. Eduardo Lujan-Moreno, 18, of Salt Lake City, was charged with the same crime and is listed as a co-defendant.

On Nov. 1, Salt Lake police responded to an assault outside a convenience store, 1692 W. North Temple, and arrived to find the victim “bleeding profusely from his head, neck and arms,” according to charging documents.

The man, who told police he was attack by four or five other men and was stabbed, kicked and hit on his head with an object believed to be a glass bottle, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, the charges state.

Later that same night, police responded to a shots fired call near 30 N. Orange St. Officers stopped a vehicle believed to be involved and found personal items belonging to the victim of the convenience store attack in the car, according to charging documents. Saldivar and Lujan-Moreno were in the car and arrested.

The new charges come six months after Saldivar was charged with four counts of discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony.

On April 7, a group allegedly fired several rounds at a house near 475 N. Redwood Road, according to charging documents filed in 3rd District Court. Responding officers found 18 shell casings and two unfired bullets in the road that came from at least three different guns, the charges state.

Saldivar was found by police a short time later in a vehicle parked in a middle school. Two guns were also found in the car, at least one of which was stolen, the charges state. Surveillance video obtained by police showed Saldivar “firing a minimum of four rounds toward the residences in the area,” according to charging documents.
