SALT LAKE CITY — A man and woman are in custody Sunday morning after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading police on a chase in Salt Lake County.

Brock Jay Hansen, 33, and Brittney Nicole Price, 23, surrendered to Unified police following the chase.

A Unified police officer was on patrol Sunday morning when he noticed a BMW he believed to be stolen, according to UPD’s Sgt. Melody Gray. As he followed the car to check its license plate, Gray said the officer observed it pull off the road and watched a man get into the passenger seat.

After confirming that the BMW was listed as stolen, the cars stopped at a light near 3300 South and I-15. The officer left his car and put stop sticks underneath the BMW, Gray said, but it drove over the sticks and made a U-turn. The right rear tire was deflated.

The BMW drove back into West Valley City and stopped at a gas station at 2700 West and 4700 South.

“That male passenger gets out of the car,” Gray said, “and gets into a Jaguar that has just arrived at the gas station.”

The Jaguar and BMW then left the gas station together, traveling west on 4700 South. After turning onto 3400 West, the woman driving the BMW got out of the car and tried to run to the Jaguar. She was taken into custody by police at the scene, and the male in the Jaguar fled.

“He eventually turned south onto Bangerter (Highway) off 6200 South, and then he comes to a stop,” Gray said. The Jaguar’s owner told police that his car was having problems, so it’s unclear whether Hansen stopped voluntarily or because of trouble with the vehicle.

He was at the pump when the vehicle was stolen, Gray said.
