EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A 9-year-old girl was attacked by two dogs in Eagle Mountain Wednesday afternoon, officials reported Friday.
The girl was riding her bike in the Meadow Ranch area about 4:30 p.m. when a mastiff and a wire terrier attacked her, said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon. The girl remained standing, but the dogs knocked her over and continued to attack.
The attack lasted about a minute until a man who lived nearby ran to help and chased the dogs away. While the man and another resident helped the girl, the dogs attempted to attack another girl on a bike, but she was uninjured, Cannon said.
The first girl has numerous bites and scratches on the front and back of her upper body and arms. She was wearing a jacket, which likely reduced the severity of her injuries, Cannon said.
Deputies arrived shortly after and restrained the dogs. The dogs are currently at the North Utah Valley Animal Shelter, and the owners of the dogs were both cited for allowing their dogs to run "at large" and attack.
