SALT LAKE CITY — Utah State Rep. Patrice Arent, D-Millcreek, is being treated for cancer, she announced Friday.
Arent, 63, has been living with multiple myeloma for the last year and nine months, she announced in a Facebook post. She said the cancer was discovered early and she is being treated at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
“With promising medical treatments emerging all the time, I am very optimistic about the future,” she said in the post. “I am grateful to have the support of so many wonderful people in our community.”
Arent currently represents House District 36, which includes areas of East Millcreek, as well as Millcreek Canyon. She has served in the Utah House since 2011.
Multiple myeloma is a cancer that affects white blood cells, causing them to accumulate in the bone marrow. Arent said the disease is “quite manageable” due to new, innovative treatments.
Despite the diagnosis, Arent promised to continue working hard for her constituents. She pointed out that she did not miss a single day of the 2019 legislative session.
“I feel remarkably good and my cancer has not prevented me from fully living my life,” Arent said. “I know this support will help sustain me and my family as we navigate this unexpected development in our lives.”
