SALT LAKE CITY — The world is full of great people.

While there are a lot of bad things happening in the world, there are and will always be great human beings who are doing their part to make things a little easier for others. We have a few examples of that in this week’s article.

The KSL.com "Make Your Week" column features uplifting stories sent in from people outside the newsroom. To share the stories that have made your day better, email them in 100 words or less to web@ksl.com. Photos and videos are encouraged. Stories may be edited for clarity.

True sportsmanship

Lynne T.

“Rival team shows support for player whose mom passed away during the 3A UHSAA tournament. The South Sevier girls basketball and student body wore purple and black ribbons on their shoes during their game, and student body held up purple hearts in support of (one of the players and her brother.) (They) played for the rival school, Richfield, during their games at the 3A tournament. Their mother passed away after a battle with cancer during the Richfield girls game on Thursday.”

A loving son

Todd C.

“Todd … knew that this was the first birthday (his mom would) be celebrating without her husband since he passed away this last year. Well, Todd didn't have any plans this weekend and decided to surprise his mom in New York City.

“So he flew out from Layton and went to her apartment building and went out on the street and gave his mom a call telling her that he had sent flowers and the flower guy didn't know which apartment was hers and to meet him down on the street. Little did she know, Todd would be waiting for her and he surprised her. They went out to dinner and celebrated that evening in New York fashion. It's her 66th birthday.”
