KEARNS — A Bountiful man is in critical condition after he was shot while picking up another man in Kearns Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
Devon Stanfill, 23, was driving on Copper City Drive near 5900 South when the man he had picked up on the side of the road shot Stanfill once in the torso, Unified police spokeswoman Melody Gray told KSL.com.
The shooter left the scene soon after, Gray said. Police are still unsure where Stanfill picked up the man and whether the two know each other.
A woman driving down the road saw Stanfill's car parked in the middle of the street and noticed he needed help. The woman, also a registered nurse, administered medical aid and called 911, Gray said.
Stanfill told police when they responded to the scene that the man who shot him was a bald, white man with blue eyes who goes by the name "Ty."
Stanfill was then transported to a hospital and will undergo surgery, according to Gray.
Police are searching Stanfill's car for further evidence on the shooting and will check the security cameras of nearby Thomas W. Bacchus Elementary School for more information, Gray told KSL.com.
