ENTERPRISE, Washington County — Deputies arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence after his off-highway vehicle rolled in Washington County Monday, seriously injuring two passengers.

James David Pierce, of Central, was driving his vehicle near the Gary and Joyce Holt Reservoir southwest of Enterprise when the vehicle rolled, pinning at least one of the passengers underneath, according to Washington County Sheriff's Lt. David Crouse.

Emergency officials responded to the crash about 1 p.m. A 26-year old passenger and Pierce's son were transported to a hospital with serious injuries via a medical helicopter.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but witnesses report the vehicle lost control while turning a corner, Crouse said.

Deputies who responded to the scene suspected alcohol may have been a contributing factor and arrested Pierce on suspicion of driving under the influence with serious bodily injury. He was booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility after medical personnel checked him for injuries.

The extent of the victims' injuries and their identities has not yet been released.
