OGDEN — Ogden police arrested a man wanted in connection with a California homicide after a violent struggle Tuesday, officials said.

Police received reports of a man in a bar near 100 25th St. who was bragging about killing someone Tuesday evening, according to Ogden Police Lt. Clint Christensen. Soon after, the officers received a tip that a man wanted in connection with a California homicide might be in the area.

The officers surrounded the bar and Robert Sims, 35, came outside. Officers instructed Sims to get down on the ground, but he fled on foot and was caught by an officer, Christensen said.

Sims resisted arrest and tried to push himself off the ground, refusing to place his arms behind his back, according to Christensen. Police eventually deployed a Taser and a K-9, and Sims was bitten a couple of times by the dog.

Officers were finally able to take Sims into custody and contact police in California who will extradite Sims back to California soon.

Sims suffered several injuries, but no officers were seriously injured, Christensen said.

Details surrounding the California homicide were not immediately released.

Sims was booked into Weber County Jail for failure to stop at the command of a law enforcement officer and interference with an arresting officer.
