SALT LAKE CITY — A man is dead and a woman is in jail after a fatal hit and run Wednesday night, officials report.

At about 9 p.m. Wednesday, Unified police and Unified Fire Authority medical personnel responded to an auto-pedestrian crash near 4200 S. Redwood Road, UPD Lt. Brian Lohrke said in a release.

First responders began to treat a man who had been hit by an SUV that fled but the man died at the scene. On Thursday afternoon, Unified police said on Twitter that the man was 19 and a resident of Taylorsville, but they still did not release his name.

Witnesses told police the victim was crossing Redwood Road from west to east when he was struck by a Cadillac Escalade traveling south. The SUV continued southbound after striking the victim, Lohrke said.

Shortly after, police located the Escalade and its driver, Roxanna Molina, 27, near 4700 S. Redwood Road. Molina was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of automobile homicide, failure to remain at the scene and driving under the influence, Lohrke said.
